Course description:
This course is delivered over a period of 4 years in conjunction with a apprenticeship. You will combine practical training with on-the-job experience to gain the qualification Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology MSF30322.
Workers with this qualification have tradesperson-level skills in the manufacture and/or installation of products, including furniture and cabinetry, made from timber and other materials.
They have core skills in tool use, measuring, drawing (including computer-aided design), interpreting work documentation, preparing cutting lists, communication, teamwork, and safe and environmentally sustainable work practices. They may have specialised skills in wood machining, cabinet and furniture making, kitchen and bathroom construction and installation, marine cabinetry, coopering or drafting.

Course outcome:
On completion you will receive a the nationally recognised qualification of MSF30322 – Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology.
To achieve this qualification, you will be required to complete 25 units of competency, comprising of 8 core units and 17 elective units whilst being employed in an apprenticeship.
Upon successful course completion, you will be qualified to work as a Cabinet Maker.

Delivery (Apprentices):
The delivery of the Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology to apprentices is conducted in an employment-based training environment. You must be apprenticed to an employer with a full scope of Cabinet Making work who themselves or one of their employees holds a Cabinet Making qualification.
The Certificate III in Cabinet Making qualification comprises of online theory and practical training at your place of employment.
- Training
A combination of face-to-face, online and on-the-job training under the direction of a Workplace Supervisor or On Site Assessing Pty Ltd’s trainer.
- Assessment
A combination of on-line theory assessments and practical observation.
Credit transfers and Recognition for prior learning (RPL)
You may be able to reduce the time required to complete your training with Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) and credit transfers.
What is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) enables you to gain credit for a unit of competency or a full qualification based on previously acquired skills and knowledge that has been acquired through life or work experience.
If you have skills or knowledge previously acquired through work experience, short courses or other qualifications, you may be able to reduce the time required to complete a qualification.
What is a credit transfer?
Credit transfer is recognition that you’ve previously completed a unit of your course through VET or higher education.
To receive a credit transfer for a unit you must provide formal evidence that you’ve previously completed the unit or a unit which matches in content and outcome. Formal evidence can be a qualification certificate or transcript, statement of attainment or your USI transcript.
When credit is recognised, you don’t need to repeat training or assessment for that unit.
Time required for completion of an Apprenticeship:
A trade-based apprenticeship is typically conducted over a period of four years, though the process is driven by competency, not time. This means that upon achieving an outcome of ‘competency achieved’ in all units listed in your Training Plan, and demonstrating competence to industry standards, you are able to be signed off on a nationally recognised trade certification, regardless of time served.

At enrolment we will:
- Collect personal details including identification documents, proof of funding eligibility documents and USI. (Don’t have a USI? Apply here)
- Conduct a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.
- Provide details pertaining to your apprenticeship and how we deliver training,
- Discuss how your training is funded and if you will have any out-of-pocket expenses such as co-contribution fees.
- Apply any credit transfers or RPLs.

Queensland Apprentices
On Site Assessing Pty Ltd is a Queensland Government Skills Assured Supplier.
Career Start funding
As an apprentice you may be eligible for full or partial funded training under User Choice funding. Depending on your funding eligibility, you or your employer may still need to pay a small Co-Contribution fee per unit of training.
If a contribution fee is required, the fee will be required to be paid before any training of the unit is conducted. You will be enrolled into units of training progressively throughout the apprenticeship. The total out of pocket cost being between $1550 – $1,800 depending on the units of training chosen for your certificate III course.
Concessions may apply for eligible learners, reducing the contribution fee to between $620 – $710.
National incentives for apprentices and their employers
The Australian Apprenticeships website, offers a number of public funded initiatives for eligible employers and apprentices. The initiatives are to help employers hire and retain apprentices in occupations where there is deemed a skill shortage and help apprentices with the cost of living and buying equipment needed for their trade.

Fee Collection
Payment of the co-contribution fee must be paid before each Unit of Competency is made available to the apprentice. Payment can be made via Direct Deposit, Credit Card and PayPal or other mutually agreed to arrangements made between the student and On Site Assessing Pty Ltd.
Refunds
Students can apply for a refund of fees paid to On Site Assessing Pty Ltd under a variety of circumstances. Students are encouraged to contact On Site Assessing Pty Ltd on 07 3523 3534 to help you with your individual circumstances.
Financial Hardship
We understand that students may be facing financial hardship from time to time. On Site Assessing Pty Ltd may be able to enter into arrangements with students and their employers to assist in the assurance that fees are paid.

When undergoing practical training, you are responsible for your own PPE and basic tools. This includes the following:
- Safety glasses
- Protective footwear
- Hearing protection
You will also require access to one of the following devices with internet access to complete the online training:
- Computer (laptop/desktop), or tablet
Units of study:
The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete all 8 core units and 17 elective units from the list below whilst being employed in an apprenticeship. Elective units will be selected in consultation with your employer and included on your training plan.
